Selling at TheZlot.com

Selling at TheZlot.com is simple.

First, you must create a screen name and account, which is simple and fast. Just go to the main page and click on “Register”.

Once you have an account, you simply select the “sell” button and everything is automated from there and you would just follow the instructions. To place a basic listing, it’s free. You can also choose other features to help make your listing stand out for a low fee. Please see our fee schedule for costs.

English Auction – This is the most common auction. You place your item up and potential buyers will place bids on your item. You need to place a starting price on your item. Remember, if you have something that is worth $100 and you put down that the starting bid is $1, then you may only get someone to bid $2 and then you would be forced to accept their bid if no one else bids. (See Reserve below to protect yourself) To avoid this, you’d want to place a starting bid that will attract buyers but will not deter them either.

Buy Now – You may place a “Buy Now” (There is an additional fee for this service) on your auction. Almost like a typical classified ad. You can have an English auction AND have the “Buy Now” feature at the same time. In the event that someone places a bid on your item instead of paying the Buy Now price, the Buy Now will disappear once a bid has been placed and the auction will proceed without the Buy Now option.

Reserve – You may place a “reserve” price on your item for no additional fee. The reserve price will not be shown to bidders. This would be your “minimum” selling price. This way, if you start your auction at $1 and you want to get $100, you set the reserve price at $100. When a bid comes in for less than $100, the bidder will receive a notice that the reserve has not been met and there is no obligation to you to sell it for less than your reserve amount.

What’s Your Item Worth? – In order to find out what your item is worth, do some research if you are unsure. Check to see what similar items are selling for so you do not short change yourself.

Ad Tips – When writing your descriptions, be as descriptive as possible as to not mislead anyone. Disclose any faults or damage and don’t forget to boast about your items better points. Place good, clear photos of your item. Show photos of any damage and placing a ruler next to it so people can see how big it is is always a good idea too. Here is an example listing:

55” Mitsubishi HDTV, Model XYZ1234

This TV is in near perfect condition. It was purchased by me in April of 05 and has had only limited use. I purchased it as a floor model at Tweeter and there are no known problems, and has been maintained once a year by the Tweeter maintenance program. The 5-year maintenance program has been paid for in full and the remainder will transfer to any new owner. There is a small knick on the bottom right side of the cabinet but it’s not that noticeable. Otherwise it is in like new condition. Please contact me with any questions. (You may also want to brag about the features. I.E. PIP, etc.)

Note how descriptive this ad is. It explains that he is the only owner, where and when it was bought, no known problems, who it’s been maintained by, that it comes with a 5 year maintenance package, the small knick, the condition, etc. You can get a pretty thorough idea here.
