Help: Bidding

Auction - Bidding on an auction is done in specified increments. The user with the highest sucessfull bid "wins" the auction and the ability to purchase the item. Auctions use Proxy Bidding (see definition below).

Dutch Auction -The final item price is the lowest successful winning bid by the highest bidders.

Fixed Price Item - All Fixed Price items are Buy Now.

Trade - To trade an item, begin by making a trade offer. The "Seller" can Accept or Decline your offer. If your offer is declined the "Seller" might send a counter offer. You can make multiple offers on any Trade listing. There are no bidding or buy now features.

Classified Ad - To purchase an item listed in a classified ad you begin by contacting the Seller with your offer. There are no bidding or buy now features.

Proxy Bidding - An automatic method of bidding that increases your bid to the next lowest price when another user bids on the same item. Your bid is increased until your maximum bid amount is reached or the auction ends.

Ask The Seller - At the bottom of every listing there is a "Comments" section where you can ask the Seller a question, or view previous questions from other users.

When submitting a question to a Seller, the message gets sent directly to their email address on file. The Seller can respond by following the link in the email.

To ask the Seller a question:

Log into your account.

  1. Go to the Item listing.
  2. Scroll down to the section marked "Comments."
  3. Click the text "Ask the seller a question." This will take you to a Contact User form.
  4. Enter your message.
  5. Click "Send" button.

It's simple.

We have a wide variety of categories to choose from.

  • Browse through our list of categories and select the one you wish to browse through. If you do not find what you're looking for, you can describe it with a word or two in the "search" box or you can use the "Advanced" search box.
  • Make sure you review the description thoroughly and don't be afraid to ask the seller questions. Review the seller's feedback to see who you're dealing with. There may be some people with no feedback because they might be new to TheZLot. If this is the case, exercise caution as you would in any purchase.
  • Once you have found the item you are looking for and decide to buy, there are two options at TheZLot. If you see "buy it now", that means that you can simply buy the item at the price listed. The other option is to place a bid on it. BOTH options may be available for any single item. If you place a bid on any item and it states that the "reserve" has not been met, that means the seller has placed the item up for auction but has a minimum acceptable price.
  • At the end of the auction, if you win, you will receive an automated email indicating that you have won the auction. You can pay through PayPal using your credit card or whatever payment method you work out with the seller.
  • Feedback- Feedback is important to our success. Whether positive or negative, please tell others what your experience was like with them. Sharing feedback will help us all as buyers and sellers. If you have a good outcome with your seller, write a nice comment in the feedback form to allow others who view their items to see that you had a pleasant experience with them. You can do this with anyone you buy from or sell to.

TIP - does not currently offer fraud protection. This is why it is crucial for you to exercise caution when making a purchase. For pricier items, give the seller a deposit via PayPal and then the rest of the funds upon pick-up. For smaller items, PayPal offers protection as any credit card would.
